A football jersey, especially one with a print, requires careful maintenance to keep its colours vibrant and its print intact season after season. Here's how to do it.

The 5 golden rules for washing a printed jersey

  • Always wash inside out to protect the print and sponsors.
  • Moderate temperature: 30°C maximum. Heat detaches the heat-seal adhesive.
  • Delicate cycle and gentle spin.
  • No tumble dryer: it weakens the fibres and the print. Air dry, in the shade.
  • Do not iron directly on the print or logos.

What detergent to use?

A mild detergent is sufficient. Avoid bleach and aggressive stain removers that discolour the fabric and attack the lettering. There's no need to use fabric softener, which can clog technical fibres.

How to dry your jersey?

Lay the jersey flat or hang it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight to prevent the colours from fading. Do not wring it out.

Mistakes to absolutely avoid

Washing at 60°C or more, tumble drying, direct ironing on the number, bleach: these are the main causes of print peeling or cracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

My print is starting to peel off, what should I do?

Gentle ironing at a low temperature with a protective cloth over it can sometimes re-adhere a slightly peeled corner. Otherwise, a professional printer can redo it.

Can a jersey be hand-washed?

Yes, it's even ideal: lukewarm water, mild detergent, without rubbing the print.
